Tax Help

2021 AARP Tax Help

The AARP Tax-Aide program is finalizing its plans for the coming tax season (Feb. 1 through April 15), and with COVID restrictions still in place, the sites will not be able to offer the kind of in-person service taxpayers have become used to for so many years. While various protocols are being developed to help people with their returns, the primary concerns remain the health and safety of taxpayers and preparers, and the security of taxpayer information.

Westchester’s sites will operate a no-contact, electronic service, which involves the transmittal of instructions, forms, permissions, and scans of tax documents through email. People can scan their documents themselves, have them done commercially, or ask a friend or relatives for help. It is expected that some sites will also operate a low-contact model, whereby taxpayers request an appointment at the site to have their documents scanned and permissions signed.

Until the protocols are entirely worked out, you can get more information by calling the voicemail designated to receive such inquiries:   914-440-3086.  You will be asked by the system to give your name and then hear a recorded message from one of the preparers. Leave your full name, phone number, and the best time to reach you, and someone will call you back within a day or two.
