The Friends of the Hart Library
The Friends of the John C. Hart Memorial Library operate year round to help enrich the Library's collection, to provide hands and voice in support of the Library's work for the community and to give people who want to help a way to offer their own assistance.

Note from the President of
the Friends of the Library
We are in the midst of some exciting times for our organization. We have added three new members to our board: Lisa Kahn, Joan Lloyd and Sara Karger bring with them a wide range of experience in fund raising and organizational skills to make the Friends an even more dynamic and effective force for the support of our library. We are striving to become more active fundraisers for future library projects. We hope, also, to develop much more of a visible presence in our building and the community, and to find ways to involve our membership more directly.
The Friends of the Library membership year runs from June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012. This is the time to renew. Happily, membership has been growing over the last several years. A large, vital group translates to a stronger library. Thanks to your support, the help of our many volunteers, and the dedication of our wonderful staff, Hart continues to thrive and serve our community in countless ways, and looks forward to a bright future. Would you please take a moment to renew your membership? The membership fee and any extra donations you might include directly support the library programs you have come to enjoy, such as the Express Books Collection, many of the children’s programs, and the Sunday Concert Series, to name but a few. Your new membership card and a coupon for a free book at the Daily Book Sale or our Annual Book Sale in the fall will be mailed to your home.

Fund raising is an integral part of any Friends activity. From annual membership dues, an on-going book sale in the Library and the much anticipated large annual book and bake sale, comes the income the Friends need. You see the fruits of their work every day at the Library. Their contributions make possible the expansion of several of our most popular collections; Express Books and DVD’s, Audio-Books, and Graphic novels. In addition, the Sunday Concert series and many Children’s Department programs are funded solely through the Friends of the Library.There is an annual meeting of the Friends in June, when a new budget is adopted and elections are held for its Officers.
Watch the bulletin boards and flyers in the Library and the Newsletters we send out quarterly for announcements of other library events.
The Library Board of Trustees and the staff are grateful to the Friends for the fine work they do and the help they offer – their assistance greatly enriches the Library. The Library Board, the Friends Board and I all welcome your suggestions about added services or resources you would like to see developed to meet your needs. Your membership in the Friends is invited
