Note from the President of
the Friends of the Library
Welcome to the website page of the Friends of the John C. Hart Memorial Library. Our membership of several hundred people contributes, through modest membership fees and their volunteer efforts, to the health and vitality of our local treasure. Many of the programs you enjoy at the library, such as the free Sunday music performances, various children’s programs, express books and dvds, the daily book sale, and of course the annual book, bake and quilt sale, are supported by the Friends. We also purchase materials and equipment for the library which otherwise could not be obtained.
Your ideas and your time are always welcome. We have an open Friends board meeting each June which you are encouraged to attend, and you can always leave a note for us at the library at any time. Most of the volunteer efforts revolve around the annual sale each October. This is a fun community event which involves many people and much preparation. There are also opportunities for helping our dedicated librarians year round.
If you are not yet a member and wish to join, you may use the enrollment form below and can indicate any special interests you may have. If you are a current member, thank you for your continuing commitment to our beloved institution.

Fund raising is an integral part of any Friends activity. From annual membership dues, an on-going book sale in the Library and the much anticipated large annual book and bake sale, comes the income the Friends need. You see the fruits of their work every day at the Library. Their contributions make possible the expansion of several of our most popular collections; Express Books and DVD’s, Audio-Books, and Graphic novels. In addition, the Sunday Concert series and many Children’s Department programs are funded solely through the Friends of the Library. There is an annual meeting of the Friends in June, when a new budget is adopted and elections are held for its Officers.
Watch the bulletin boards and flyers in the Library and the Newsletters we send out quarterly for announcements of other library events.
The Library Board of Trustees and the staff are grateful to the Friends for the fine work they do and the help they offer – their assistance greatly enriches the Library. The Library Board, the Friends Board and I all welcome your suggestions about added services or resources you would like to see developed to meet your needs. Your membership in the Friends is invited
